Spirituality in the Clinical Practice

This seminar is for mental health professionals who want to enhance their effectiveness with clients whose spirituality is an important part of their worldview. Understand the rationale for spirituality in counseling and trauma work. Explore ways of incorporating your client’s spirituality in a culturally competent way.

Agenda

  • Welcome and Introduction; The concept of Spirituality (20 minutes)
  • A rational for spirituality in the practice of counseling; Spiritually Integrated Trauma Work (20 minutes)
  • Cultural Competence when working with spiritual clients – Group Exercise; (60 minutes)
  • Case Vignette; Ethical Guidelines; Assessment (60 minutes)
  • Spiritual Interventions: Ten Tools for the Therapeutic Toolbox (60 minutes)
  • Summary, Review and Closing (20 minutes)

Learning objectives of this course

Participants will learn how to effectively integrate spirituality into the clinical practice.
 

  • Learn multidisciplinary interventions to treat the whole person
  • Safely integrate spiritual principles into psychotherapy
  • Mindfulness practice as a tool for spiritual growth
  • Discover how stories and metaphors can increase insight and lead to transformation
  • Experience spiritual practices and tools in psychotherapy

 

Additionally, you will learn how to use metaphors, stories or folktales as a way to shift perspectives and develop an understanding of spiritual concepts such as Zen teachings. 

You will leave the day with competence in spiritual/religious assessment, improved ability to use spiritually-oriented treatment approaches, and the skill to add mindfulness techniques into traditional forms of therapy.

About the PRESENTER(S)

  • Heidi Schreiber-Pan, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, is a licensed professional clinical counselor in Baltimore, Maryland, where she runs a private practice. She works with various community and faith organizations to merge spirituality and psychology. Dr. Schreiber-Pan is also affiliate assistant professor at Loyola University Maryland, teaching for the department of Pastoral Counseling, a premier CACREP-approved counseling education program that integrates the pastoral/spiritual, clinical, and scientific dimensions of counseling psychology. Dr. Schreiber-Pan specializes in anxiety disorders and provides therapy that integrates spiritually and mindfulness. Her workshops and seminars are offered all over the East Coast. She investigated the role of faith in trauma and the effect of nature on psychological well-being and spirituality. Speaker Disclosure: Heidi Schreiber-Pan is a member of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision; the American Counseling Association; and Maryland Association for Counseling and Development. How to access our Zoom workshops

There are two ways to view our live Zoom workshops. If you are having trouble logging in, please refer to the instructions below.

Log in via link from email

When you registered for our Zoom Workshop, you should have received an email from Vivian Morgan with access information. I looks something like this:

  1. Make sure you have Zoom installed on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Simply click on the link that says “Click Here to Join“.

You most likely will not need to enter the passcode since Zoom’s unique link already has it embedded. There are some instances where you Zoom will ask you for the passcode. The passcode is in the same email right after the “Click Here to Join” link.

Please note that these emails are unique to your registration, so it is not possible to share the access information with anyone. 

Log in through our website

In the event that you lost your Zoom email, you can still login through our website. Follow these steps.

  1. Make sure you have Zoom installed on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Login into your TrueBalanceCounseling.com account
  3. If you were already redirected, please go to your Account Dashboard where you will see all the classes you registered for, similar to this page:
  4. Find the class you registered for and click on that link. You will be directed to the course page. You will see a Zoom link to the workshop on the right sidebar. Or if you are on a phone, scroll all the way to the bottom. Then click on the Zoom link. See this example below:
  5. Once you click on the Zoom link you will see this page:
  6. Your username should automatically be populated in the top field. YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER THE ZOOM PASSCODE in the bottom field. TBTI will send you two reminder emails that will include the passcode. If for some reason you do not have the passcode by the time the class starts, please contact us immediately.
  7. After you entered the passcode, You have the option to view the Zoom presentation through our website by clicking on JOIN VIA WEB. If you click on JOIN VIA APP, your Zoom application will launch.
